The park includes a lighted gazebo with
ceiling fan nestled within landscaped beds, wall seating and
decking. Playgrounds are under construction which will include
swings for children and adults, a 10 foot spiral slide, an airplane
teeter totter, a sand box, a mushroom playhouse along with other
equipment designed primarily for younger children. The grounds
surrounding the play areas and pavilion have been landscaped with
sod to make your family outings more enjoyable.
The lighted covered pavilion, which provides electrical
outlets, has picnic benches and 4 grills for family cookouts.
Restroom facilities are located by the pavilion.
Liberty Park will provide trails for walking and nature hikes.
An observation deck and arched bridge are located along the trails
that are shaded by the acres of trees and forestry that will remain
greenspace. The bridge was built over a road bed that was
established circa 1790s for horses and wagons. The primary walking
trail is 3,228 feet long and the secondary trail extends a quarter
of a mile. Wooden swings are scattered through out the park.
A second pavilion is located by the observation deck. Be sure
to bring your binoculars and camera to watch and capture Jones
County's natural beauty and wildlife.
The Park was designed by Commissioner Larry Childs with
construction provided by the County's Building and Maintenance
Department, Parks and Recreation Department, inmate labor, and the
front entrance gazebo by Nick DiPaolo and his students from Jones
County High School.
