Larry Childs was the first republican commissioner elected in Jones County, entering office January 1, 1993. He’s a former president of the Jones County Republican Party, former state delegate for the Georgia Republican Party and is currently an alternant delegate. Childs has served on the Health and Human Services Committee and General County Government Committee. He currently serves on the Economic Development and Transportation Committee, and MATS Committee.

Childs was raised in Jones County and has lived here for most of his life. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Childs coached little league baseball and football for many years, and served as vice president on baseball and football league boards. He is the owner and manager of a general contracting company.

Childs is very proud of his Jones County roots and takes pleasure in working to help the county grow and prosper. Some achievements for Jones County since Childs has been in office include; E-911, a new jail, 8 new fire stations, a new Health Department, Civic Center, Head Start building, Haddock’s new community park, Haddock Water System, 49 Recreation Complex, Streetscape in downtown Gray, water expansion, and many of our county’s dirt roads have been paved.
