It is the mission of the Jones County Board of Commissioners to exercise the powers, duties and responsibilities vested in and imposed upon it as the duly constituted governing authority of Jones County. The Board sets direction and formulates policies for the county government and entrust the leadership of the county administrator to adhere to and enforce such policies and to ensure provision of the highest quality services to both its internal (employees) and external (citizens) customers. The Board embraces the opportunity to respond to the needs and concerns of the citizens; and to conduct business in an open and professional manner without favoritism.

Jones County operates under a five member Board of Commissioners. The Chairman of the Board is elected at large. Jones County is divided into four commission districts. All five commissioners are elected every four years. Jones County runs its daily operations as commission-county administrator form of government. This system combines the policy leadership of elected officials with the administrative abilities of a county administrator. The Board appoints the County Clerk, Chief Deputy Clerk and County Attorney at the beginning of each new four year term in addition to electing a Vice-Chairman from the four district commissioners.

The commission meets in regular session twice a month on the first Tuesday (6:00 p.m.) and third Tuesday (6:30 p.m.). Commission Zoning Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. with the regular session meeting immediately following.
