Agriculture & Environmental Sciences and Georgia 4-H"
The office serves the citizens of Jones County in the areas of Agriculture &
Natural Resources, 4-H & Youth, and Family & Consumer Sciences.
We are located at the Jones County
Government Center, 166 Industrial Boulevard, just off of Highway 11
North in Gray, GA.
The mission of the UGA Cooperative Extension Service is to respond
to the needs and interests of clientele in the areas of agriculture,
the environment, 4-H and Youth, and family and consumer sciences
with unbiased research based information to help solve problems and
improve quality of life. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Examples of services and programs provided by the Jones County
Extension Service include, but are not limited to the following:
Agriculture & Natural Resources: Sampling/analysis of soil, water,
hay, feed, poultry litter, lagoon effluent, and plant nutrients,
weed/insect/disease/plant identification and control, crop and
livestock production, forest, fisheries, and wildlife management,
commercial and home horticulture including fruit & vegetable
production, ornamentals, lawn and landscape management, and pest
control, wildlife/home pest control, water quality and environmental
management, and much more.
4-H & Youth: Project competition, development of leadership and
public speaking skills, school 4-H Club Meetings, rallies, 4-H
camping opportunities, shooting sports, judging events, summer
activities, awards recognition, scholarships for college, and much
more.
Family and Consumer Sciences: Food preparation and safety, food
nutrition information, clothing and textiles, home financial
management, indoor air quality management, removing clothing and
household stains and mildew, canning and freezing of fruits and
vegetables, preservation of jellies, & jams, wild game from field to
table recipes, health and wellness, home water quality, and much
more. |
