Jones County is home to two recreation complexes. The complex located on Highway 18 known as the Central Complex is host to many sports and amenities. Also located there are covered picnic pavilions, outdoor basketball and tennis courts. The county has purchased an additional 62 acres of land adjacent to the complex for expansion. Fifteen acres of this land will be used for EMA and the remainder will be dedicated to the recreational needs of the citizens of Jones County. Future developmental plans drafted by Stantec include adult clover leaf fields, football field, soccer field, playground area, adult baseball fields, little league fields, walking trails, swimming pool, gym and abundant parking areas located throughout.

The Jones County National League has both baseball and fast-pitch softball. It is sanctioned under a Dixie Youth Charter. Sign ups generally begin in late January with the season starting in March and continuing through June.

The Jones County Youth Football League operates out of the Central Complex. Sign ups begin in August with the season running from September to the end of October. For additional information go to www.JCYFL.com.

The complex located on Highway 49 is known as the South Complex. The Jones County American League operates here. The one million dollar plus facility began construction in 1999 and was financed with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds. It was updated in the last year with a new sewer system and the county is currently constructing an additional restroom facility on the lower field.

The Jones County American League operates here. Their sign ups dates are also in January with the spring season running from March until June. They also offer a Fall Ball program with sign ups in September with the program running through October.

Youth Basketball is offered with signups in November with the season running through February. Lori Roberts may be contacted at 478-986-4609 for further information. The President of the Basketball League is Brad Dupree. The county’s gym is located behind the Government Center Building off of Highway 11 at 166 Industrial Boulevard. The gym facilities have been improved this past year with completely renovated restroom facilities and new tile floors. Improvements were funded with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. The adjacent meeting room was also renovated to include new tile flooring and new restroom facilities. This meeting room is also used as a polling place by the elections department. New goals will be available in the 2006 – 2007 season for the shooters league, which are the youngest age bracket players.

Also located at the government center complex is a softball field which is utilized for practices at the beginning of the season and then used by the Church League Softball for their season of competition.

Soccer is offered in Jones County and is headed up by Dr. Todd Kelleher. This fall program coincides with the Youth Football Program. You may call 986-9802 for more information. The program is hosted at the government center complex. For the upcoming 2006 season, 273 children are participating. The soccer program is available to children ages 4 through 16.
