NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
The Jones County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by .35% in the Incorporated area, and .20% in the Unincorporated area. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Jones County Government Center, 166 Industrial Blvd, on August 23, the first meeting at 10am, and the second at 6pm. Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at the Jones County Government Center, 166 Industrial Blvd, on August 30, 2017, at 6pm. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 17.649 mills in the Incorporated area, an increase of .061 mills over the rollback rate, and a millage rate of 16.197 for the Unincorporated area, an increase of .032 mills over the rollback rate. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 17.588 for the Incorporated area, and 16.165 for the Unincorporated area. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $2.44 in the Incorporated are and $1.28 in the Unincorporated area. The proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $50,000 is approximately $1.22 in the Incorporated area and $0.64 in the Unincorporated area.
