Solid waste disposal is offered at nine (9) manned convenience centers throughout Jones County.

Jones County does not operate a landfill.

  • Yard debris is accepted only at the Overland Way facility.
  • Cardboard and plastic recycling is offered.
  • Motor oil recycling locations: Garrison Road, Rock Creek Road, Walnut Creek/Upper River Road and Overland Way.
  • Batteries are accepted for recycling at all locations except Juliette. NO LITHIUM ION BATTERIES ACCEPTED (ELECTRIC VEHICLES, RIDE ON TOY BATTERIES, DRILL BATTERIES, ETC.)
  • All newspaper that is collected at the recycling center on Industrial Boulevard behind the Government Center is used as a fund raiser for the Keep Jones Beautiful Commission.
  • All solid waste is transported to nearby landfills.

Mission statement:

The mission of the Sanitation Department of the Jones County Board of Commissioners is to provide cost effective and environmentally friendly collection and disposal of solid waste in the form of household refuse and provide single stream recycling all to the citizens of the county.

 

Vision:

Our vision is to look forward to the fast-changing needs of sanitation and offer better household refuse services with dedication and offer recycling programs as they become available, concentrating on quality of service for the customers as well as preservation of the environment.

  • NEWS PAPER IS RECYCLED AT THE INDUSTRIAL BLVD. KEEP JONES BEAUTIFUL CENTER IN GRAY
  • USED OIL RECYCLING AT GARRISON RD., ROCK CREEK RD., WALNUT CREEK CENTER/UPPER RIVER RD. AND OVERLAND WAY CENTERS
  • CAR AND LAWN MOWER BATTERIES ARE RECYCLED. NO LITHIUM ION BATTERIES ACCEPTED (ELECTRIC VEHICLES, RIDE ON TOY BATTERIES, DRILL BATTERIES, ETC.)
  • EMPTY FREEZERS/REFRIGERATORS-PLACE IN RED METAL RECYCLE BINS
  • APPLIANCES (METAL MICROWAVES, STOVES, DISH WASHERS, FREEZERS and WASHERS/DRYERS)-PLACE IN RED METAL RECYCLE BINS
  • ANYTHING METAL-PLACE IN RED METAL RECYCLE BINS
  • HOUSE HOLD GARBAGE-PLACE INTO THE COMPACTORS
  • MATTRESSES-PLACE IN GREEN OR PURPLE OPEN TOP CONTAINERS
  • TELEVISIONS-PLACE  IN GREEN OR PURPLE OPEN TOP CONTAINERS

  • NO CONCRETE, DIRT OR ROCKS
  • NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS/DEBRIS (FENCES, DECKS, SHEETROCK ETC.) YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN CAN RENTED FOR YOUR DEBRIS
  • NO FULL/PARTIALLY FULL PAINT CANS  (EMPTY/DRIED CANS ARE ACCEPTED)
  • NO DEAD ANIMALS
  • NO AUTO BODY PARTS
  • NO BOATS, HOT TUBS OR LARGE FIBERGLASS ITEMS
  • NO PLASTIC BAGS IN THE RECYCLE BINS
  • NO GLASS RECYCLING-PLACE IN THE OPEN TOP DUMPSTERS
